Fika is a big part of every Swede's everyday life. Basically, fika just means to have a coffee. But it is so much more than just that. It has been described as a social institution or even phenomena. we just love our fika. It gives them the opportunity to meet and hang out with friends and now with new filmmakers, get to know new people, check out potential partners or network with business folks.

We encourage our international filmmakers to be part of this amazing Swedish tradition FIKA if there is one tradition that you need to witness yourself in Sweden that would be FIKA!

We also encourage our local Swedish filmmakers to be there so we can explain to our international filmmaker our tradition FIKA and share some input about filmmaking at the same time!

- Feb 24 / 2023 at 11am  "Bridging the Second Act" Masterclass by Scott Simpson (Everyone is welcome) - Årsta Folkets Hus

We are trying to make a longer workshop but  this is the time we counting now we will keep you updated if we are be able to extend our Workshop!

"Bridging the Second Act" Masterclass by Scott Simpson

Masterclass Description:
Why cinematic art so closely follows the three-act structure of theatre and why, now, cinema is no longer dependent to its historical theatrical format.

Why, even in this new paradigm, the three-act structure still exists, and can extend over an hour of episodic television, an entire season of television, or even through the span of an entire series. Particular emphasis is given to the middle half, the second act, and why it is the most difficult part to write; and how to make structuring the second act much easier.
Two examples of scripts that have crucial second act elements built into the script in the earliest stages planning. And how, with the key actions inserted in the outline, even the earliest draft will have the necessary dramatic tension.
Audience participation. Attendees will be invited up to present a script they are currently working on and defend (or workshop) their second act.

So our dear filmmakers this is a free Masterclass specially for you! So be there, Enjoy it!

About Scott Simpson

Scott has a BA in English from Columbia University and an MFA from Columbia Film School’s screenwriting program.  He has had screenplays from across all genres compete and place in prestigious competitions and film festivals, such as WGAe Foundation Dramatic Fellowship, the Austin Film Festival, the Oaxaca Film Festival for the past five years and the Nicholl’s Fellowship.  He has written fifteen screenplays -- and several scripts for television.  The first two television scripts (a spec for The Librarians and a pilot) both made the Second Round at the 2015 Austin Film Festival.

He has taught screenwriting as an adjunct professor in the graduate English Department at the University of Texas at Tyler with a concentration on completing a working second act; and also used that occasion for further research on the earliest days of the Oil Boom.  This became a 9-hour miniseries, Kilgore Crude, about the first year of the East Texas Oil Boom 1930-31.

Thirty years ago he wrote a screenplay, The MacKenzie Breakout, which is a post-Apocalypse western that takes place at the North Pole.   Its second act involves taking a boat ride across the Arctic Ocean at the dawn of a global environmental collapse at the polar ice cap – and October, 2015 – he did just that.  He is the first screenwriter who was ever accepted into the Arctic Circle Program.  That experience led to a rewriting of The MacKenzie Breakout that led to it winning numerous awards as Best Screenplay in competitions and film festivals.
